From the author of the acclaimed A Visit from the Goon Squad come these eleven igniting stories. Although published elsewhere, this is the first time these stories have been collected together in one volume. Masterful and poignant, we read about loneliness and longing, regret and desire. Egan’s characters are diverse: housewives, schoolgirls, models and bankers, scattered across Bora Bora, China and Manhattan. But what they do have in common is their search for ‘the other’ – something completely outside their own realm of experience.

While all art is unique, the challenges artists face are shared regardless of background, experience, and artistic medium. With decades of experience training and helping artists, the staff of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) believe that any artist needs three components to fortify a career in the arts: access to funds, entrepreneurial skills, and an opportunity to showcase work. With extensive interviews, anecdotes, and expert advice, The Profitable Artist may make you just that.

New in store – Text Classics

Text Classics’ publisher Michael Heyward on ‘the lost marvels’ of Australian literature: ‘It’s as if we think that good books burn down like candles, when the truth is they get better and brighter.’

The 30 carefully selected books in the Text Classics series are milestones in Australian literature, books often forgotten, even condemned to ‘out of print’. Rediscover Miles Franklin’s My Brilliant Career; be reminded why Careful, He Might Hear You was an incredible bestseller. And have you ever read Cosmo Cosmolino? Helen Garner gives us a gorgeously written story about three very different characters, and diverges from her usual laconic style. Introduced by prominent Australians such as Ramona Koval and Christos Tsiolkas, these are books by our most loved writers, who tell our most important stories.
